DESCRIPTION:A Suicide Prevention Training for Faith Community Leaders will
be held Tuesday\, November 3\, at the Lee Dam Fine Arts Center in Marysvil
le. The seminar will be led by David Umanzor of the Soul Shop Movement and
sponsored by DCCCA of Kansas.\nWhile the training is designed primarily f
or leaders serving in faith communities\, educators\, school counselors an
d administrators\, youth program leaders\, and other concerned community m
embers are strongly encouraged to attend. The need is especially important
in rural Kansas. Overall and youth suicide rates in rural and less-popula
ted Kansas counties are approximately 50% higher than in urban areas. At t
he same time\, rural communities often have fewer mental health resources
available to those who are struggling.\nThis seminar is designed to equip
caring adults to recognize warning signs\, respond appropriately\, and bec
ome part of a community of support for individuals who may be at risk. Par
ticipants will gain practical tools and greater confidence in responding t
o those who may be experiencing a mental health or suicidal crisis.\nRegis
tration opens September 14. Early-bird registration is $20\, which include
s seminar materials and lunch.\nSpeak to Pastor Jacob if you need more inf
 ormation.\n
